What a JSON formatter does
A JSON formatter takes compact or messy JSON and rewrites it with consistent indentation and line breaks, so nested objects and arrays are easy to read. It also parses the text while doing so, which means invalid JSON is caught immediately and reported with the line and column of the first problem.
This formatter keeps your key order by default. Turn on Sort keys when you want a stable, alphabetical output that is easy to compare in a diff.
How to format JSON online
- Paste your JSON into the left panel, drop a .json file onto it, or press Try with sample JSON.
- Check the status line above the input. It shows Valid JSON, or the line and column of the first error.
- Pick an indent of 1 to 4 spaces or a tab. The right panel updates as you type.
- Press Format to write the formatted text back into the input, then copy or download the result.
Tree, table and TypeScript views
The Tree view lets you collapse and expand objects and arrays, which helps with large API responses. The Table view turns an array of objects into rows and columns.
